Gloucestershire NHS counting on public support
Plus Cheltenham Town Football Club to play in changed kit for charity
Dear readers - it’s me again with your second post but this is a weekly update of news from the county.
I’m really pleased with my first post (below) and I’ve been encouraged by readers who have given feedback with positive comments, including one gentleman from Gloucester who wished me good luck.

As I am in the early days of experimenting with this Substack, I have made one small change. Instead of a twice-weekly news roundup, I’ve decided to move to one roundup a week. This relieves me some time so I can focus on my own pieces. I firmly believe in quality over quantity and this will give me the space to do so.
Below is my first news roundup from Gloucestershire, including some stories you may have missed recently. One story from this week that cannot be missed is the NHS in Gloucestershire urging for the public’s support as services face ‘considerable pressure’ due to high rates of flu and norovirus.
🗳️ Five Gloucestershire MPs have signed a joint letter outlining their own vision for devolution. The three Labour and two Liberal Democrats have proposed two unitary authorities for Gloucestershire - one in the west and one in the east. The County Council has requested a delay to May’s local elections but there is fury with Gloucestershire Greens saying the call to delay is “undemocratic” and the Lib Dems have accused the Conservatives of political advantage.
➡️ A Gloucestershire business dynasty is mourning the sad loss of a key figure in its 125-year history with the death of Mike Warner, aged 77.
🏚️ Tricorn House in Stroud will not be used to house asylum seekers as updated by the District Council.
🗑️ Lib Dem MP for Cheltenham, Max Wilkinson, has urged two councils to save a recycling centre that is set to close "indefinitely".
🏠 The company behind plans to build 375 homes on the edge of Newent will have to pay nearly £1 million towards education in the town.
🚲 Residents living near a new cycle path in Cheltenham say they fear it poses a road hazard and are calling for access to their drives to be widened.
🍔 A new fast food chain in the centre of Stroud would be 'inappropriate' say members from a nearby doctor's surgery who have voiced their opposition to the plans.
❤️ A bleed kit has been installed in Frampton-on-Severn in memory of Ramarni Crosby who was a victim of knife crime in December 2021.
🏊 Fundraising has started for an outdoor swimming pool near Stroud which would be heated by water drawn from the earth.
⚽ Cheltenham Town will be wearing a one-off third shirt in support of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) for their League Two fixture at home to Salford City on January 25.
🙌 A positive story as a Gloucester woman has spoken about her journey to losing eight stone.
🐎 And finally, how about something light-hearted? A grandmother from the Cotswolds has celebrated turning 100 by riding on horseback!
