News from the Shire - Wednesday 7th May
Latest roundup of news away from Gloucester and Cheltenham
Dear readers - the local elections are now behind me as I look to write more pieces on Gloucestershire.
Any local democracy pieces will be shared via my weekly roundups but now is the time to focus on other entries for my blog/newsletter. If you have not seen already, my piece on having a love of walking was shared on Sunday. Call me Will does involve my personal interests so I am glad to have made a start sharing pieces on an activity I enjoy doing.
This week is also poignant because of the 80th anniversary of VE Day. 1945 is arguably one of the most important dates in Britain’s national story. The end of World War Two did not come to its conclusion on May 8th 1945 as the war in the Pacific still rumbled on, but in Europe it was a fight for peace.
The legacy of this moment in history still has an impact on us today and in Gloucestershire there have been street parties already in Minchinhampton to commemorate the anniversary. Thankfully the weather recently has been dry with plenty of sunshine and it looks set to continue as more VE Day events take place across the county.
Below is this week’s News from the Shire.
